Student Ball - 11th January 2009

Just slightly after twilight, a steady trickle of students, lecturers and their distinguished guests began to flow into the beautifully rustic Royal Selangor Ballroom. Soft music filled the room as guests took their designated seats, anxiously waiting for the evening to begin.

Mr. Reuben, representing the Management of ATC, Mr. Lazarus, Head of Student Services and Murthi, President of the Student Representative Council opened the Ball with short yet warm and welcoming speeches.

Shortly after, the buffet tables were opened and a succulent repast awaited our growling stomachs! With live entertainment to boot in between the first, second (and I do believe) third helpings from the two different buffet areas, we were entertained by the myriad of talents from the pool of ATC’s students. There were the lovely nightingale voices of Audrey Wilson and Edmund Wong, the upbeat number by the boys from the Hindu Sangam and the musical performances from the Disciples of Athena.

Amnesty International ATC also organised an auction. It was positively scandalous auctioning the lecturers – there was the personal SASSY, dance and the private lunch as incentives to the winning bidder – but it was all done for a good cause! All proceeds have gone directly to the Rumah Kanak – Kanak Impian (Taman Megah).

After Mr. and Ms. ATC had been crowned, the RM500 cash prize was awarded to the talent hunt winner; the tantalising voices of Audrey Wilson and Edmund Wong. However, the night was far from over. The DJ opened the dance floor by inviting the winners of the auction to claim their right in a dance. The music proved too great a temptation. Before the song concluded, students and other lecturers quickly filled the dance floor.

As a member of the organising team, I am proud to say that not only was the Student Ball a truly grand success but also a night that both students and lecturers will not forget anytime soon.
